The Dissenting Chair

[SFX: Empty room ambience. Wooden chair moves]

NARRATOR: Juror six had vanished after the verdict. Her name was Lena Orr, a school accountant who believed the prosecution's timeline was impossible. Evelyn found a pencil mark beneath her jury chair: 4:12, BELL TWICE.

MAYA RIN: At four twelve, the courthouse clock struck twice because maintenance reset it. Lena heard the strike during the murder video.

RUSSELL QUILL: The video timestamp showed three fifty.

EVELYN SHAW: Then the video was shifted twenty-two minutes. The defendant's alibi covers four twelve.

NARRATOR: Russell insisted he received the video from Cole. Cole had once worked as Judge Pell's courtroom technician. He knew the audio system and had altered evidence in exchange for witness protection.

[SFX: Phone vibration. Answering machine beep]

LENA'S VOICEMAIL: They told me a dissent would release a killer. I wrote not guilty. The screen displayed guilty beside my seat before I pressed anything.

NARRATOR: Lena's message ended with a train announcement. Cal identified the station and found her hiding in a church hostel. She had fled after a court officer followed her home.

LENA: The officer wore a bailiff jacket, but his shoes were white. Court security wears black.

CAL DANE: Judicial marshals wear white-soled training shoes during firearms qualification.

JUDGE ARTHUR PELL: An entire service owns white shoes. This is not evidence.

EVELYN SHAW: No. The evidence is that somebody knew which juror dissented before the vote was announced.
